Projects: Kazakhstan

Although the government of Kazakhstan began treating patients for multi-drug resistant (MDR)-TB on a limited basis in 1999, the program has been hampered by the use of inappropriate drug regimens, limited access to drug susceptibility testing and poor case management.

The Gorgas TB Initiative is collaborating with the National Center for Tuberculosis Problems and the Zhetysuiskij Tuberculosis Dispensary, in Almaty to develop a model system of case management for the treatment of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
