Research Goals

The primary goal of our research is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of function of various proteins and to understand the structural basis for their biological activity. A variety of research tools including single crystal X-ray crystallography are employed. A significant amount of research effort is devoted to the study of proteins from infectious organisms. Infectious diseases are still the leading cause of death worldwide. Long known infections such as malaria, tuberculosis, diarrhea are still at the top of the list of killer diseases. Rapid emergence of resistance to drugs emphasizes the need for continuous research to identify novel targets in the microbes for developing effective drugs.
