The Division operates inpatient
and consultative services at
University Hospital and
Birmingham VA
Medical Center.
Outpatient clinics are held at both
The Kirklin Clinic and
Birmingham VA Medical Center.
At University Hospital, the inpatient service maintains a daily
census of approximately 24 patients in the GI/Hepatology unit on
J14. Approximately 80 patients are evaluated monthly on the
consultation service. Each service is staffed by an attending
faculty member and fellow that rotate monthly. Residents rotate
through both ward and consultation services. Annual outpatient
visits to The Kirklin Clinic average over 10,000 with over 5,000
procedures performed. Patients are
seen by attending faculty with the assistance of fellows.
