Dr. Mona N. Fouad, M.D., M.P.H. appointed Director of Division of Preventive Medicine
Dr. Edward Abraham, Chair of the Department of Medicine, has appointed Mona N. Fouad, M.D., M.P.H ., as Director of the Division of Preventive Medicine effective October 1, 2009.
Dr. Fouad received her M.D. from Alexandria University School of Medicine and M.P.H. from UAB. Dr. Fouad joined the Division of Preventive Medicine as a Health Educator in 1986 and is now Professor of Medicine as well as Director of the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center at UAB. Her present appointments at UAB also include Senior Scientist, Diabetes Research and Training Center, Co-leader, Population Science for Cancer Control Program for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Scientist for the Clinical Nutrition Research Center, Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education, Center for Aging, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Center for Health Promotion at UAB.
Dr. Fouad serves on the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities at NIH and has participated in multiple external advisory boards related to minority health and health disparities. She is nationally and internationally known for her work on health disparities and has received extensive funding from the NIH and other organizations for these efforts.
